A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 6386 AS INTRODUCED 9-24-02

House Bill 6386 would amend the County Zoning Act to allow the county board of commissioners to appoint electors who reside in the incorporated area of the county to the county board of zoning appeals. The act allows county boards of commissioners to enact zoning ordinances for the establishment of land development regulations and districts in the portions of the county outside the limits of cities and villages that regulate the use of land. In any county where the board of commissioners enacts a zoning ordinance, the board must create a county board of zoning appeals to hear and decide questions that arise in the county's administration of the ordinance. Currently, only electors who are residents of the unincorporated area of a county may be appointed to the board.
