House Bill 6324

A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 6324 AS INTRODUCED 9-17-02

House Bill 6324 would create a new act, the MIChild Program Act, to establish the MIChild Program within the Department of Community Health. The program would be used to provide health care to children who met eligibility criteria established by the DCH. DCH could not use money from the program to promote the use of, or to provide a prescription for, a drug or device intended as a contraceptive to an eligible child without consent from a child's parent or legal guardian.

(DCH currently administers a children's health insurance program called the "MIChild Program" under Title XXI of the federal Social Security Act. For fiscal year 2002-2003 state funding for the program is appropriated through the Department of Community Health by Public Act 519 of 2002.)
