House Bill 6203

Sponsor: Rep. Bob Brown

Committee: Family and Children Services

Complete to 6-13-02

A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 6203 AS INTRODUCED 6-13-02

Under the child care licensing act (Public Act 116 of 1973), the Department of Consumer and Industry Services licenses and regulates child care organizations. These organizations include traditional day care centers and nursery schools, but also children's camps. Under the act, camps include residential, day, troop, or travel camps for more than four school-age children, for five or more days within a 14-day period. The bill would add sports camps to the definition of children's camps, and would lower the threshold from five or more days, to three or more days within a 14-day period.
