A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5948 AS INTRODUCED 4-23-02

House Bill 5948 would amend the Michigan Memorial Highway Act to name most of US-127 beginning in the south at the Ohio-Michigan border and continuing north through Lenawee, Jackson, and Ingham Counties, in honor of Annie Oakley.

More specifically and under the bill, those portions of Highway US-127 beginning at the border between Michigan and Ohio in Lenawee County, and continuing through Jackson County to the intersection of Highway US-127 and Highway I-94 in Jackson County, and then beginning at the intersection of US-127 and the southern border of Ingham County and continuing through Ingham County to the intersection of Highway US-127 and the border between Ingham and Clinton Counties, would be called the "Annie Oakley Memorial Pike."

House Bill 5948 also would repeal 43 House and Senate resolutions adopted between 1931 and 1995 that named portions of roadways to honor people or events.
