A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5231 AS INTRODUCED 10-16-01

House Bill 5231 would amend the Persons with Disabilities Civil Rights Act (37.1202) to prohibit an employer of an individual to consent to disclose "health care information" that was not related to the individual's ability to perform the duties of a particular job, unless it was required by federal law. "Health care information" would mean information, recorded in any form or medium, related to the health care of a specific patient, as defined in the proposed "Health Care Information Protection and Privacy Act." The bill is tie-barred to House Bill 4936, which would create the proposed act.
