A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4881 AS INTRODUCED 6-5-01
Currently, the Revised Judicature Act allows circuit court reporters or recorders to receive $1.75 per original page, and 30 cents per page for each copy, for transcripts ordered by any person, unless a lower rate is agreed upon. When a transcript is ordered by the circuit judge, the county pays the transcript fees, and when a transcript is ordered for moving for a new trial or preparing a record for appeal, the transcript fees are recovered in the court of appeals or the supreme court as part of the taxable costs of the prevailing party in the motion.
The bill would amend these provisions of the act to increase the transcript fees to $3 for each original page and 50 cents per page for each copy. The bill also would make some technical language changes, to say that circuit court reporters or recorders could demand and would receive these transcript fees (instead of the current language that says they "shall be entitled to demand and receive" the transcript fees), as well as make other minor technical language changes.
