A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4832 AS INTRODUCED 5-30-01
Currently, under the Worker's Disability Compensation Act, after an employee gives notice of injury, at the request of his or her employer or the insurance carrier, the employee must submit to a medical examination by a physician or surgeon "furnished and paid for by the employer or the carrier." The bill would amend the act to require the employer or carrier in such cases to furnish to the employee, not less than 20 days before requesting that the employee submit to such a medical examination, a list of at least three physicians ("or surgeons"). At a minimum, the list would have to include the name, address, phone number, and any specialty area of practice for each physician on the list. The employee would have to select one of the names from the list within seven days, and the employer would pay for the physician selected by the employee.
