A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4086 AS INTRODUCED 1-31-01

House Bill 4086 would create the College Students' Children's Day Care Act. Under the bill, the legislature would be required to appropriate funds to a state institution of higher education that operates an on-site day care program for the children, up to 12 years of age, of students of the institution. Specifically, the institution would receive $500 per semester for each child enrolled in the day care program for an average of 30 hours per week. This would be in addition to other money the institution receives from the state. In addition, each institution would be required to report, no later than December 15th each year, in a manner prescribed by the Department of Education, the number of participating children to the State Board of Education, Department of Education, and the appropriations committees of the House and Senate. Failure to accurately report the number of children would render the institution ineligible to receive payment for the operation of the day care program.
