Rev. Todd Vanaman, Pastor of Dixie Baptist Church in Clarkston, offered the following invocation:
"Our heavenly Father, we come before You today thanking You for the goodness and the mercy that You have generously bestowed upon each of us. Lord, we thank You for the opportunity we have to serve You in various walks of life. Today we ask, especially for this legislative session, that we would have Your wisdom, Your counsel, Your guidance and Your mind that You may be honored through what we do here as Your representatives, not only in our churches but also in our state. Human government, the church and the family are all institutions that You created and Father, for that we give You great thanks and ask for Your help. The Bible promises us that if any lack or need wisdom, we can ask of God who giveth to all men liberally and abradeth not. Father, we ask for that wisdom to be ours today as they handle these many, many matters that come their way. Lord, we thank You for this wonderful state of Michigan and for the great United States of America. We ask that You would bless, help and be with us. Lord, for the problems that we may face and have to fight, we pray that we would look at them more as challenges and be able to accomplish Your will and You would receive the glory. Lord, may we not just be interested in following man's way but may we also follow Your way and that You would lead us in the paths that are right. Lord, we ask that You would help keep us humble as we are before You and that You would be honored in all that we do. Lord, we ask these things not just for our own righteousness sake, because really in and of ourselves we have none. We thank You for the salvation of the Lord, Jesus Christ. We thank You that who so ever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. We thank You Lord that You loved us and that You sent Your son the Lord Jesus to die in our place so we may have life eternal. And Lord, while we have life here, may You guide and direct us. Father, we pray these things because of the great mercy and goodness that You have extended to each of us and we thank You for the privilege that is ours to serve You. May You bless this time and may You help these legislators as they discuss and vote on very important issues and Lord, may You receive the glory for it all. We ask and pray these things because of our Lord, Jesus Christ, and in his name, Amen."
