A bill to permit employers to encourage employees to seek and to serve in local elective office. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT: 1 Sec. 1. An employer may encourage and may provide reason- 2 able accommodations for an employee to seek and to serve in local 3 elective office. 4 Sec. 2. As used in this act: 5 (a) "Elective office" means a public office filled by an 6 election. 7 (b) "Employee" means a person who performs a service for 8 wages or other remuneration under a contract of hire, written or 9 oral, express or implied. 10 (c) "Employer" means a person who has 1 or more employees. 11 (d) "Local elective office" means an elective office at the 12 local unit of government level. Local elective office does not 06057'00 FDD 2 1 include an elective office that is considered a full-time 2 position. 3 (e) "Local unit of government" means a district, authority, 4 county, city, village, township, board, school district, interme- 5 diate school district, or community college district. 6 (f) "Person" means an individual, sole proprietorship, part- 7 nership, corporation, association, or any other legal entity. 06057'00 Final page.
