A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 6048 AS
INTRODUCED 9-28-00
The bill would create a new act to allow
the display of the Ten Commandments on
public property (defined in the bill to mean
"a building or land owned, possessed, or
leased by the state or a political
subdivision of the state") if all of the
following requirements were met:
- The Ten Commandments were
displayed with other documents, public
records, or objects of historical
significance that have formed and
influenced the legal or governmental
system of the United States;
- The Ten Commandments were
displayed in the same manner as other
documents, public records, or objects
that were displayed at the same time
and location; and
- The display did not focus more
attention on the Ten Commandments
than on other documents, public
records, or other objects that were
displayed at the same time and
location.
