A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 6035 AS INTRODUCED 9-28-00

Redemption games, such as skee ball and basketball games found in many arcades, restaurants, and bars, often dispense coupons, based on the points scored in a single play, that can be redeemed for noncash prizes, toys, or novelties. Currently, players can accumulate the coupons and redeem them for items that have a value up to $250 wholesale, such as large stuffed animals, watches, radios, and CD players. The bill would amend the Michigan Penal Code to reduce the maximum value of such items from $250 wholesale to $10 retail.
