A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5623 AS INTRODUCED 4-13-00

Currently, Part 401 of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act (NREPA), concerning wildlife conservation, specifies that the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) may issue a permit authorizing a person to take game from, or upon, a standing vehicle during the open season, if the person holds a valid license to take that game, but is physically unable to walk, for various health reasons. House Bill 5623 would specify, instead, that such a permit could be issued to a person who, because of disease, injury, congenital condition, or age, is otherwise not reasonably able to engage in the physical activities normally associated with the taking of game.

The act also specifies that, except for permits issued to take game by persons who are permanently disabled, all fees received for permits and licenses issued under the act must be forwarded to the state treasurer and credited to the Game and Fish Protection Fund. House Bill 5623 would delete the above exception to this requirement.
