A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5085 AS INTRODUCED 11-2-99


The bill would amend the Mental Health Code to require the Department of Community Health to establish a facility to provide treatment for persons with a serious mental illness or developmental disability who are deemed unsuitable for placement into a community based dependent living setting. The department could either operate the facility directly or through a contract arrangement with a private vendor. The department would be allowed to enter into an agreement, contract, or arrangement with an individual or a public or private entity as necessary to achieve the provisions of the bill.
