Complete to 3-15-99

A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4392 AS INTRODUCED 3-9-99

The bill would amend the Michigan Vehicle Code to prohibit a person from riding in the open bed of a pickup truck, and also would prohibit an owner or operator of a pickup truck from allowing a passenger to do so. The prohibition would apply to those driving or riding on a highway or any other place in a city, village, or township that was open to the general public.

House Bill 4392 would not apply to a military vehicle, an authorized emergency vehicle, or a vehicle moving as part of a parade (and having a parade permit). A violation of the bill would be a civil infraction.
