A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4333 AS INTRODUCED 2-25-99

Under the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act (NREPA), the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) may require park permits and collect park permit fees for entry into state parks. Currently, the fee for an annual park permit is $20. However, an owner of a resident motor vehicle who is 65 years of age or older pays one-quarter that amount. House Bill 4333 would amend the act to allow a veteran who supplies documentation of his or her eligibility to also pay the discounted (one-quarter) fee for an annual park permit. (The bill defines "veteran" to mean a person who had served in the military, naval, marine, or coast guard forces, or in the national guard, of the United States, and who was released or discharged under honorable circumstances. The bill would also delete archaic language from the act.
