A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4103 AS INTRODUCED 1-28-99

The small claims court hears and decides cases where the dispute is over a limited dollar amount. Currently, the jurisdiction of small claims courts within the state is limited to cases seeking to recover money in an amount that does not exceed $1,750. House Bill 4103 would amend the Revised Judicature Act to raise the amount of money that could be involved in a case before a small claims court. Under the bill, a small claims court could hear cases involving amounts not to exceed $5,000.
