ADDENDUM TO SENATE FISCAL AGENCY ANALYSIS OF SB 468 - 471 DATED 4-15-99:


HOUSE COMMITTEE ACTION:


The House Committee on Criminal Law and Corrections replaced Senate Bill 471 with House Bill 4592. The bills are identical in effect.


In addition, the committee adopted amendments to all of the bills that would clarify that immunity would be given for compelled testimony that was truthful. Immunity would not be given to someone who lied under oath when he or she was compelled to provide testimony. The committee also adopted an amendment to delete the tie-bar language in House Bill 4592.


POSITIONS:


The Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan supports the bills. (11-3-99)


The bills are part of Governor Engler's crime agenda and are supported by the governor. (11-3-99)
