ADDENDUM TO SENATE FISCAL AGENCY ANALYSIS OF SB 451 DATED 10-11-99:
HOUSE COMMITTEE ACTION:
The House Committee on Employment Relations, Training and Safety adopted two amendments to the bill to bring references up to date.
Specifically, under the bill a study would be undertaken to determine the financial and procedural implications of applying a cancer presumption to volunteer firefighters, and further, to describe changes that would be necessary in order to apply a cancer presumption equally to all classifications of firefighters. The Senate-passed version of the bill would have required that study to have been presented to the leaders of the appropriate standing committees of the legislature by June 30, 2000. The House Committee on Employment Relations, Training and Safety retained this provision but adopted an amendment that would require the report be submitted by June 30, 2002. In addition, an amendment was adopted to re-name the standing committees to which the report would be submitted in such a way so as to allow for changes in their names in future sessions of the legislature.
POSITIONS:
The Michigan Professional Firefighters Union supports the bill. (6-20-00)
The Michigan Association of Fire Chiefs and the Southeastern Michigan Fire Chiefs Association support the bill. (6-20-00)
The Joint Fire Service Council supports the bill. (6-20-00)
