Rep. Michael Bishop, from the 45th District, offered the following invocation:

"Almighty and most merciful Father, who calls the world into being and creates persons in Your own image, we praise and give thanks to You for the beauty and bounty of our state. Be Thou to us this day, the guide of our pilgrimage. We pray Thee for wisdom and character in ourselves and the leaders of this state. Give us the peace of God--passing all understanding. Let us not lose faith in Thine eternal purpose, despite the confusion and dismay of this troubled world. Especially grant to our nation wisdom and sanity, courage and patience, so we as leaders put the state's and the nation's welfare above party. And, when our children's children remember us in times to come, may they be able to give thanks for our devotion to justice, liberty and peace on earth and good will towards our fellow man. We ask this in Thy name. Amen."
