        A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled

   "The revised school code,"

   by amending section 1234 (MCL 380.1234).

               THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 1         Sec. 1234.  The board of a school district  other than a

 2     primary school district  THAT OPERATES GRADES K TO 12, for a

 3    period of not more than 1 year, may pay the salary of a qualified

 4    teacher  who has taught within the school district for 3 or more

 5     years  EMPLOYED BY THE SCHOOL DISTRICT while the teacher, with

 6    the consent of the board, is performing teaching duties in

 7    another state, a foreign country, or a territory of the United

 8    States or a foreign country in exchange for the services of a

 9    teacher of another state, a foreign country, or a territory of

10    the United States or a foreign country.  A teacher of this state

11    while on exchange duty is entitled to the same compensation,

 1    rights, and privileges, including retirement benefits, as though

 2    the teacher were continuously performing normal teaching duties

 3    for the employing board consenting to the exchange.
