A bill to amend 1949 PA 300, entitled "Michigan vehicle code," by amending section 217a (MCL 257.217a), as amended by 1988 PA 419. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT: 1 Sec. 217a. (1) A person who holds an unexpired technician, 2 general, conditional, advanced, or extra class amateur radio 3 license issued by the federal communications commission may make 4 application directly to the secretary of state for a registration 5 plate inscribed with the official amateur radio call letters of 6 the applicant as assigned by the federal communications 7 commission. THE PLATE SHALL HAVE THE WORDS "AMATEUR RADIO 8 OPERATOR" INSCRIBED BENEATH THE REGISTRATION NUMBERS. 9 (2) The applicant shall prove to the satisfaction of the 10 secretary of state that the applicant holds an unexpired amateur 00711'97 VPW 2 1 radio license. In addition to the regular registration fee, the 2 applicant shall pay a service fee of $2.00. The $2.00 fee shall 3 be credited to the Michigan transportation fund; and, after 4 deduction of manufacturing and administrative costs, the service 5 fee shall be allocated pursuant to section 10 ofAct No. 51 of6the Public Acts of 1951, being section 247.660 of the Michigan7Compiled Laws1951 PA 51, MCL 247.660. A plate may be issued 8 for a motor vehicle which bears a registration issued pursuant to 9 section 801(1)(a) and (q). 10 (3) If a plate issued under this section is used on a vehi- 11 cle other than the vehicle for which the plate was issued, the 12 owner of the plate is guilty of a misdemeanor and the registra- 13 tion plate shall be surrendered to the secretary of state. A 14 holder of a plate whose amateur radio license is not in full 15 force and effect immediately shall surrender the call letter 16 plate to the secretary of state and obtain a regular registration 17 plate. 18 (4) An application for a plate issued under this section 19 shall be submitted to the secretary of state pursuant to section 20 217.
