SNOWMOBILE REGISTRATION NUMBERS - S.B. 273: FLOOR ANALYSIS
Senate Bill 273 (as discharged)
Sponsor: Senator Harry Gast
Committee: Transportation and Tourism
CONTENT
The bill would amend Part 821 (Snowmobiles) of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act to revise the manner in which registration numbers must be displayed on snowmobiles. Currently, the Act requires a snowmobile owner to attach a registration decal to each side of the forward half of the snowmobile. Under the bill, a snowmobile owner would have to paint on or attach the registration number (in the same location) in block characters of good proportion, at least three inches high, reading from left to right. The numbers would have to contrast so as to be distinctly visible and legible. A number other than the number awarded to the snowmobile on the registration certificate, or granted reciprocity under Part 821, could not be attached or otherwise displayed on the snowmobile.
(Although similar provisions had been added by Public Act 92 of 1997, the current language was subsequently reinstated by Public Act 102 of 1997.)
