The bill would amend the Public Health Code to add “registered professional nurse with specialty certification” to the list of health professionals who are considered “prescribers”.

Under the Code, the authority to prescribe drugs or devices is limited to a prescriber. Currently, a prescriber includes a licensed dentist, doctor of medicine, doctor of osteopathic medicine and surgery, doctor of podiatric medicine and surgery, optometrist certified to administer and prescribe therapeutic pharmaceutical agents, veterinarian, or other licensed health professional acting under the delegation of a licensed doctor of medicine or doctor of osteopathic medicine and surgery.
