CONTENT

The bill would amend the Michigan Election Law to require that a precinct election inspector be a qualified and registered elector of Michigan, rather than of a particular county or local unit of government.

Currently, except as otherwise provided, a precinct election inspector must be a qualified and registered elector of the county in which he or she serves or, in the case of a local unit of government that lies in more than one county, of the local unit in which the election is being held.  The bill, instead, would require an election inspector to be a qualified and registered elector of the State.

Under certain circumstances, a person who is 16 or 17 years old and who is a resident of the county in which he or she serves or, in the case of a local unit of government that lies in more than one county, the local unit in which the election is being held, may be appointed to a board of election inspectors.  The bill would delete the residency requirement.
