STATEWIDE PUBLIC HOUSING AGENCY S.B. 1119 (S-2):
FLOOR SUMMARY
Senate Bill 1119 (Substitute S-2 as reported by the Committee of the Whole) (as passed by the Senate)
Committee: Economic Development
CONTENT
The bill would amend the State Housing Development Authority Act to authorize the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) to operate as the sole statewide "public housing agency" in Michigan until three years after the bill's effective date. "Public housing agency" would mean that term as defined in Federal law (42 USC 1437a). The definition, however, would not confer on MSHDA powers not granted elsewhere in the Act.
(Under the Federal statute, "public housing agency" means any state, county, municipality, or other governmental entity or public body, or agency or instrumentality of those entities, that is authorized to engage or assist in the development or operation of public housing.)
