CONTENT
The bill would amend Chapter 22 (Initiative and Referendum) of the Michigan Election Law to specify requirements for petition sheets that are 8-1/2 by 14 inches, and allow petition sheets that were 8-1/2 by 11 inches if they met certain requirements.


Currently, each petition sheet must by 8-1/2 by 14 inches. Under the bill, sheets of this size would have to be in horizontal format and contain at least seven signature lines. The bill would allow the use of a petition sheet that was 8-1/2 by 11 inches in horizontal format if it met all of the following conditions:

-- The full text of the proposal could be printed on one or both sides of an 8-1/2 by 11-inch petition sheet.
-- Each petition sheet that was submitted was 8-1/2 inches by 11 inches.
-- Each petition sheet contained at least seven signature lines.


The bill also would require the heading of each part of the petition to be in 12-point, rather than 14-point, boldfaced type.
