A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4666 AS INTRODUCED 4-24-01
Under the bill, "eligible public safety employee" is defined to mean a police officer or firefighter not subject to a civil service system established under Public Act 78 of 1935 (which provides for the creation of a fire fighter and police officer civil service system in cities, villages and municipalities). Further, "firefighter" is defined to mean a member of an organized fire department who is responsible for fire suppression and other fire related services (and would not include a member of the state classified civil service system). "Police officer" is defined to mean a sheriff or sheriff's deputy, a village or township marshal, or an officer of the police department of any city, village, or township (and would not include a state police trooper or sergeant or a member of the state classified civil service system).
